Building Awareness of Junior Achievement’s Role in Building Business Leaders of Tomorrow

by Chris Brown on Thursday, July 19, 2007

This morning a committee of marketing and business people met to discuss ways to help build awareness in the Akron area business community about the efforts and results of the local Junior Achievement organization. During the last 20 years, things have changed and many people aren’t aware of how influential JA has become in building community leaders.

In a community like Akron, where the small business and entrepreneurs are the future of our area by providing continuous growth, it’s important that this story is told. For instance, most people do not know that almost 22,000 students in more than 1000 classrooms were impacted by Junior Achievement programs in the Akron area during the 2005-2006 school year… and the majority of them were elementary age students.

REQUEST: If you are an Akron area business person and have a story to tell about how Junior Achievement shaped your business education while you were growing up, please contact Jacquie Tinnemeyer at (330) 434-1875 or via e-mail at staff(at)ja-akron.org.

When I was with Hasbro, I was one of the volunteers who helped to mentor students in product development and marketing. It was amazing how much I learned when it was time to boil it all down to the basic principles of market! If you haven’t had an opportunity to be involved in an organization like Junior Achievement and are looking for a way to give back to the community, you might contact the local JA office near you.
