Can You Expand Your Market by Adding Some New Colors?

by Chris Brown on Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Three types of paperwhite daffodils means expanded choices.

Are you trying to expand your market, but find that you don’t have enough resources for new tooling and new product development?    How about considering a color change?

Sometimes a slight difference can be less expensive to launch your new product and you can sell additional products to current customers.

This may help with current cash flow for funding your big new products.

I know people who joyously run thru the flower and vegetable catalogs looking for new varieties of colors or kinds to add to their gardens.  (I am raising my hand!!)

Does your product line lend itself to expansion thru a slight color change?  Will the cost of carrying additional inventory be offset with the increase in sales?  These are some of the questions to consider before expanding your selection.

These spring flowers from my garden remind me about an email I recently received about seeds for gardening and growing your own vegetables, flowers and herbs.  Here’s a link to a friend of mine’s new business: Seed Moon Farm providing garden seeds for flowers, herbs and vegetables.  If you’re thinking of buying seeds to plant in your garden this spring, consider giving these seeds a try.  Seed Moon Farm ships anywhere in the USA.   Full Disclosure: she’s the daughter of one of my clients! — A recent college student who sells fresh farm vegetables she has grown herself at the local farmers market and a good friend.  While I’ve never bought her seeds before, I have eaten some of the vegetables and they’re great!

I could write an essay on this, since my mum has a vegetable plot in our back garden, only I won’t :P I recommend you go to your local library and pick up gardening for Dummies or something, because it takes a helluva lot of words to explain it .
