Foursquare – A Cross Between Twitter and Maps

by Chris Brown on Monday, April 5, 2010

This past week I took the plunge into yet another new social media networking tool — Foursquare.

I’m not sold on it yet, but I could see some really strong marketing applications for restaurants, concerts, tourist attractions and other businesses that need to attract people to their location.

Have you looked at www.foursquare.com yet?

Chris- Thanks for the update. It can be very challenging to keep up with all the new “stuff” coming at us. Your blog post serves as a great data point on keeping abreast of other networking options.

Thanks

I’m starting to get the hang of it, I think. Like most of time when I start out with a new social media tool, I’m not sure I see the point of it yet, but I’ll get familiar and either see the value or abandon it.
thanks for commenting.

I’m not planning to try it out for my business personally, but I do belong to a couple of social clubs that have been trying it out. From what I understand in the past 3 weeks they have gotten 25 new members through FourSquare. So it looks like for location dependent businesses this could really be a marketing goldmine.

Thanks for the insights! I’ve found it a little challenging to get a signal from where I actually am and have had to add new locations. But I could see how this would be great, because all of a sudden, while you’re looking at your smart phone, all these new places that I didn’t even know where there, pop up onto the screen. I guess the game aspect of it is what keeps people logging into it.
