Using LinkedIn as a sales strategy?

by Chris Brown on Thursday, April 19, 2007

During a recent conference in Chicago I was introduced to the idea of using LinkedIn as a sales strategy. Not marketing… sales.

I guess I could see using it as a marketing strategy, but not necessarily sales. To me there is a difference. With marketing you educate, inform, persuade. With sales you present pitch the price, deliverables and go for the close.

Maybe I’m being too tied up in just the words here, but to me, the idea of soliciting sales from LinkedIn feels like spam or taking advantage of connections. The idea of marketing products or services seems less so.

What do you think? Am I being too tied into the difference between sales & marketing? Where is the line in the sand between sales & marketing?
