Do you effectively use photos to market your business? Beth Dunphy, of Akron, Ohio does — she knows that a picture tells 1000 words.
Companies that want to brand and market a product or service should make good use of “before and after” photos, especially when the change results in a strong visual. I think we are most familiar with this when the photos are about a weight loss or fitness product, but it works for lots of different industries too.
This is from an email newsletter that Custom Closet Designers sent out about a recent garage project. Custom Closet Designers, as you can see from their website, provides much more than closets.
Having a photo allows your potential customers and clients to envision the benefits in their own home or business. I know when I saw this photo, I pictured my own garage that has a quite a few shelves, but no doors to keep things looking smart.
Here are some tips when doing before and after photos:
- Get a system in place. Your first start up meeting with a client should include taking that “Before” photo!
- Stand in the same place when you took the “Before” photo for the “After” photo.
- Include a before and after photo in your email marketing marketing materials and on your website.
- If you don’t have an email newsletter, print them out and put in a portfolio or album.
- Make showing the “before & after” album part of your sales process. Then the client’s will ask to be included.
- When my kids were getting braces, the orthodontist had a photo album of the after’s sitting out in the waiting area, so parents like me could see the improvements in the other kids’ teeth. If you don’t have a convenient receptionist area, consider bringing the album with you to the trade show or chamber of commerce meeting, or other networking event.
- Make sure your client is okay with using their photos for marketing your business. You don’t want to share more information that they are willing to reveal.
- If your customer is willing to write a note that can be included with the photos, your visual testimonial can be even stonger.
Beth is in my Toastmaster club and when I talked to her this morning, she said the homeowners was so delighted with the results that they asked her to create another project for them with more storage space.
How can you use “Before & After” photos in your marketing materials to visually explain the benefits your products and services provide? Have you already done it? Tell me how!?!
